Support for Mine Action

Last updated: 30 October 2015

In 2014, the Republic of Croatia contributed approximately HRK166.2 million (some US$28.9 million) to its mine action program.[1] A further HRK37.5 million ($6.5 million) came from public companies and state administration bodies.[2]

Croatia also received $716,769 million in international contributions toward clearance activities and victim assistance from Canada and the United States (US).[3]

Mine action activities in Croatia have also been funded through the European Union Instrument for the Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA). In 2014, IPA funds (some €8.3 million/$11 million) were allocated to several clearance projects.[4]

In 2014, Croatia’s contribution to mine action from its state budget, public companies, and administration bodies accounted for 73% of the total mine action budget. While the remaining 27% came from international donors and IPA funds.[5]

From 2010–2012, international contributions to Croatia averaged approximately $3.2 million per year, compared to just $408,000 in 2013–2014. The decrease observed in international assistance to Croatia since 2010 has been partially mitigated by Croatia’s own contributions to its mine action program. In 2010–2014, Croatia’s contribution to mine action from the state budget totaled more than $172 million.
