Support for Mine Action

Last updated: 11 December 2017

In 2016, the European Union (EU) was the second largest donor in mine action contributing more than €66 million (US$73.8 million) to 10 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.[1]

The largest contribution went to Croatia receiving more than €45 million ($50.7 million) for clearance activities at the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as a project on mine clearance of agricultural land running until 2020.[2]

At the Mine Ban Treaty 15th Meeting of States Parties in November 2016, the EU stated that it will continue to provide assistance to States Parties that “most need support in meeting their commitments under the Ottawa Convention,” as well as to affected states not party.[3]
