Support for Mine Action

In 2016, the Republic of Korea (South Korea) contributed US$2.5 million to mine action through the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Assistance in Mine Action (VTF), the ITF (International Trust Fund) Enhancing Human Security and UN Development Programme (UNDP) Thematic Trust Fund. In 2016, South Korea considerably increased its mine action funding by providing $2.2 million more than in 2015.

South Korea’s contributions to the VTF—representing more than 90% of its total contribution ($2.3 million)—went toward support to Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Palestine, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan.

As in 2015, Its contributions through the ITF went to mine action projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Palestine, as well as in the Central Asia region.

Since 2012, South Korea’s contribution increased more than tenfold, climbing from €220,000 to €2.5 million.
