Although increased in 2016 compared to a year prior, Spain’s overall reduction in mine action support is a direct result of government-wide austerity measures. Since 2009, Spain’s contributions have dropped by more than €10 million ($14 million).

Between 2012–2016, Spain’s funding to mine action totaled €4.3 million ($5.5 million), this is 88% less than the €37.6 million ($52.8 million) contributed during the previous five-year period, from 2007 to 2011.[3]
