Support for Mine Action
In 2017, the European Union (EU) was the third largest donor in mine action contributing more than €59 million (US$67.6 million) to 10 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America.[1]
The largest contribution went to Chad receiving more than €22 million ($25.7 million) for mine action activities.
In August 2017, the Council of the European Union adopted a Decision in support of the implementation of the treaty. As part of the decision, the EU committed to promote universalization efforts, and to support efforts to implement victim assistance, mine clearance, and stockpile destruction aspects of the Maputo Action Plan.[2]
