Support for Mine Action

In 2018, the Kingdom of Sweden allocated some SEK161.3 million (US$18.6 million)[1] in mine action funding. Compared to 2017, Sweden’s funding increased nearly fourfold.

The largest contribution went to Danish Demining Group (DDG) and Mines Advisory Group (MAG) (who collectively received SEK40 million/$4.6 million) for mine action activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Lebanon, Libya, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Zimbabwe, and Western Sahara. This represents 25% of Sweden’s total contribution in 2018.

Since 2014, Sweden’s funding for mine action has tripled and totaled nearly SEK365.6 million ($44.1 million). However, this is some 22% less than the SEK466.2 million ($67.1 million, 34% less) contributed during the previous five-year period, from 2009 to 2014.

In February 2018, Sweden announced a new SEK320 million (nearly $40 million) contribution to support mine action activities implemented by DDG and MAG in up to 15 countries over three years.[4]
