Policy

The Republic of Seychelles signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 4 December 1997 and ratified it on 2 June 2000, becoming a State Party on 1 December 2000. Legislation to enforce the antipersonnel mine prohibition domestically was adopted on 8 April 2004.

Seychelles does not regularly attend meetings of the treaty, but it did attend the Third Review Conference in Maputo in June 2014. Seychelles has not attended any subsequent meetings of the treaty. Seychelles submitted its second Mine Ban Treaty Article 7 report on 8 July 2005 but has not submitted subsequent reports.

Seychelles is party to the Convention on Conventional Weapons and its Amended Protocol II on landmines but not Protocol V on explosive remnants of war. Seychelles is also party to the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

Use, production, transfer, and stockpile

Seychelles has never used, produced, exported, or imported antipersonnel mines, including for training purposes.
